The front seat, ring, and rear seat on the CMD tip saver valves are constructed of high durability CPM 9V steel for maximum wear resistance. The spacer and body are made of high quality H13 tool steel. This steel has an exceptional ability to absorb twisting and bending without fracturing.
The separate front seat and valve body provide an important feature. Since the ring and front seat are generally the parts subjected to wear, the valve body and spacer are reusable after easy clean up, thereby saving a substantial portion of the cost of a new valve. All parts of the CMD 5 piece tip saver valves are first through hardened, and then the wear components (ring, front and rear seats) are nitride case hardened to maximize the hardness of the CPM 9V steel.
Ring geometry is designed for high strength and low edge stress concentration to eliminate the possibility of cracking. Generous radii reduce stress concentrations making a strong valve body which is even more resistant to fracturing.
CMD valves are designed to process heat sensitive polymers without excessive sheer to the material. All sharp edges and corners are rounded off, and the flow surfaces of the valve assembly are highly polished.

The sealing surfaces of the valve are precision ground to assure exact size and concentricity so the valve will shut off and seal with perfection.
